Friz Freleng

Friz Freleng

Isadore "Friz" Freleng was an American animator, cartoonist, director, and producer famous for his work on the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons from Warner Bros. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance) and Speedy Gonzales. The senior director at Warners' Termite Terrace studio, Freleng directed more cartoons than any other director in the studio (a total of 266), and is also the most honored of the Warner directors, having won four Academy Awards. After Warners shut down the animation studio in 1963, Freleng and business partner David H. DePatie founded DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, which produced cartoons (notably The Pink Panther Show), feature film title sequences, and Saturday morning cartoons through the early 1980s.

  • Two Musketeers by Friz Freleng

The romanticism of adventure is the name of the game, in this 16-field limited cel from famed Warner Bros. director Friz Freleng. Set in a beautiful and dramatic medieval castle, our hero Bugs Bunny shows that rapscallion Daffy Duck the literal edge of his rapier-like wit. As Bugs denudes Daffy of his plumage, he truly knows that "...Swashbuckling is as swashbuckling does...Doc!" This limited edition cel began with a drawing by Friz Freleng. The master line image was then silkscreened onto an acetate sheet (or "cel") along with the Warner Bros. Masters Collection/Friz Freleng seal. Each cel was then expertly hand-painted on the reverse side. The original background was reproduced using a four-color lithography process on acid-free paper. The edition number was hand-inked on each cel in an edition of 750. Finally, Mr. Freleng approved each cel with his signature. Learn More
